CARPEL TUNNEL SYNDROME

What Causes Carpel Tunnel?
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome can be caused by any repetitive motion that stresses the upper extremities of the body. The increased use of Computers and their accompanying flat, light – touch keyboards that allow for high speed typing, have resulted in an epidemic of injuries to the hands, arms and shoulders, neck. The increased use of pointing devices subtle movements, add to these injuries.

  • Poor posture and body positions

  • Poor ergonomics( positioning of the chair and the mouse, monitor, keyboard, assembly line and so on.

  • Decreased strength due to poor conditioning or injury.

  • Insufficient relaxation/Rest away from the stresses that cause the problem

  • Excessive force that is required to perform an action.

  • Muscle imbalances.

All of these factors place unnecessary repeated  stress upon the soft tissues of the neck, shoulders, arms, wrists and hands.  The classical definition of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is the impairment of motor and/or sensory function of the median nerve as it traverses through the Carpal tunnel.

Carpel Tunnel Treatment
I primarily use 2 treatment methods, followed up with post treatment advice Learn more. Methods include:

Active Release Techniques (ART)
ART is a non invasive, hands on, soft tissue technique that simultaneously locates and breaks up scar tissue...Learn More

Redcord Neuromuscular Treatment
The Neurac method aims to regain normal function movement patterns by using high levels of neuromuscular stimulation...Learn More

Sessions Needed
Typically a 45 minute initial consultation will include assessment and treatment.  Follow up treatments usually go for 20mins which is purely focused on treatment and improving Range of Motion and pain and discomfort.I usually will start of between 3, to 5 treatments and see if that can be resolved within that period. Sometimes one session may be sufficient if the condition isn't too severe.

Start Now To Reduce Further Pain
Once you are experiencing pain it's important to commence treatment early rather than waiting to see if your body can self recover.

Post treatment
Post treatment is just as important as pre treatment because it is all about prevention, typically known as prehab. The Key elements of Prehab are:
1. Letting your body recover
2. Hydration
3. Nutrition
4. Keep moving!
